Capture Plates (Required)
Capture plates are mounted on the underside of the king pin box on a 5th wheel trailer. It is necessary in order to engage the head plate of a SuperGlide Hitch and activate the sliding mechanism as the vehicles turn.
A Universal Capture Plate can be used on any trailer, and installation on most king pin boxes can be relatively simple, but time-consuming. In cases where the fore-to-aft dimension of the king pin box is very short, installation of extension plates and knee braces (provided) adds additional time and effort to complete the project. Some welding may be required.
Quick-Connect (Custom) Capture Plates are available for some king pin box configurations. Use of this plate will simplify the installation and greatly reduce the time required. This custom plate simply slips up over the king pin and around the box and set screws hold it in place. See Photos. The Quick-Connect plates that fit specific king pin boxes are shown in the table below. (The manufacturer's number should be on one of the surfaces of the pin box.)
