Repair or Replace?
Please note that if you smelled ammonia before your unit stopped working, it most likely means that your cooling coil is leaking. In this case, you should strongly consider replacing the unit and not trying to repair it. The new unit with its warranty will generally be the best deal for you. Anytime you have a unit that is old and repairs are likely to be expensive, replacement should be considered instead of repairing the old unit.
