I was thinking the other day about the importance of our trailer hitch. I mean, really thinking about the basics of the operation; about how the physics has to be right and the construction has to be rugged and reliable. That’s why I’m proud to say that we use B&W Hitches for our RV. As luck would have it, your favorite RV parts, accessories and RV consignment center, PPL Motorhomes has them. B&W offers a Turnover Ball Hitch to fit nearly every domestic full-sized pickup on the market. The Turnover Ball is an easily-installed, complete gooseneck hitch that bolts to the frame of your truck using existing holes (see Fit List below). The Turnover Ball comes with a removable 2 5/16″ ball, and is rated for 30,000 lbs. towing and 7,500 lbs. tongue weight capacity. The ball stores upside down in the socket when not in use, leaving a flat, unobstructed bed floor.
This hitch is easily installed and removed, leaving the truck rail free. Plus, you can pull a gooseneck RV or Fifth-wheel with the same hitch! To change, just pull and turn the spring-loaded latch pin in the driver’s side wheel well, lift the ball out of the socket, flip it over, drop it back into the socket, and engage the latch pin. The process takes longer to read about than it does to complete.
They install in about an hour, with no welding. The hitch assembly simply bolts across the truck frame under the bed while the bed is in place — the only modification to your truck is a four-inch round hole in the pickup bed floor.
And with this hitch, the B&W Companion Fifth Wheel Hitch can be added in minutes. Pull your RV and gooseneck trailer with the same system! Click here for the B&W Companion Fifth Wheel Hitch.
As an RVer, or even a homeowner for that matter, I know you have a pet peeve about something related to your RV or house. Mine is a kinked water hose! Ahhhhhh!!! I can’t stand it when the hose kinks! It’s always when you need it most and it’s always far away. You may try the “flip and twist” technique, but that hardly ever works. It either tangles the hose more, or you can never get it untwisted. You have to walk all the way over and physically flip the hose. I know I’m complaining, but have you ever experienced the Houston Summer? You need to expend as little energy as possible.
Of course you can get one of those nice garden caddies. They usually do the job well, but the hose can sometime still twist on the line, and where do you have room in your RV for hauling a giant, cumbersome garden hose holder, or caddy? Never fear, Apex never kink hose is here! The Apex Neverkink RV and Marine hose is guaranteed to never kink, or tangle. Well, that solves my problem right there!
I highly recommend an Apex Neverkink hose. Especially if you are like me and can’t stand to have a messed up garden hose! PPL Motor homes carries them and they are very reasonable. Check them out… you’ll be glad you did.
Why does PPL Motorhomes, your consignment RV center recommend that you sell or put your RV on consignment during Spring? Well, the answer really is quite simple. It all boils down to Spring Fever! As soon as the weather breaks and we see our first signs of spring, people are already tired of being cooped up for the Winter. (Especially up North where they had some very serious weather and snowfall this Winter season.) When Spring finally does roll around, RVers want nothing more than to be outdoors.
Likewise, people who don’t own an RV yet may see their RVing friends leaving and going off for weekend and spring break adventures and they want to be part of the fun. Of course, calling the RV lifestyle “fun” is an understatement! We’ve had customers who have been waiting almost their whole lives to get their first RV, and in Spring buyers come out of the woodwork.
Everyone imagines that every day in an RV will be like that wonderful Spring adventure day. The weather is comfortable, the camps are open and you will make friendships that can last a lifetime. Who doesn’t want to sit around a campfire on a comfortable Spring evening talking about the past and what’s in store for the future? I’ll tell you, every conversation is better over roasted hot dogs, marshmallows and S’Mores. Who doesn’t want to be part of that picture? If you are ready for you first, or fifth RV, check out our consignment RV inventory at PPL Motorhomes in Houston and PPL Motorhomes in New Braunfels.
It’s President’s Day, and all of you that read my blog know that I’m going to get patriotic. If you are here specifically for that, thank you. If you are here because you are looking for the perfect consignment RV for a President’s Day barbecue, well, you are getting warmer try here.
With today being President’s Day, I think I want to write about an experience I had while watching a movie recently: That movie was Lincoln. This isn’t a movie review, or a political rant. It is how I feel about the position of The President Of The United States Of America. I realized that it takes a person of tremendous will power and resolve. It takes someone who is willing to sacrifice their family to serve a people. It takes vision and an unwavering allegiance to the people you lead. It take courage to lead. It takes humility. It takes both empathy and sympathy. It takes sternness and it takes compassion. These are qualities inherent in anyone brave enough to take on the responsibility of leading and entire people. It is something that every American President has had and will have.
When I celebrate President’s Day, I celebrate the strength and power of an entire nation. It is the people that shape the history of our country. It is the responsibility of our elected officials to speak for the majority of the people they represent. If they don’t do their job, the people vote them out. Be it to the benefit of our nation, or to the detriment of it, this is the system and it’s the best one in the world. It takes a different person to run a country and not rule one.
Happy President’s Day…a day who’s festivities shouldn’t detract for the honor of office.

Ah, Valentine’s Day. Flowers, chocolates, cards and romance. Valentine’s Day is a day that makes some giddy like school children and others, well, maybe not as much, but you can’t deny that it is one of the most romantic days of the year. If you are looking for a little history on Valentine’s Day, you can find it here. Now I’m a romantic at heart, and if I have one complaint it’s that the modern Valentine’s Day has become focused on flowers, gifts, and expensive dinners, wandering off from it’s true roots of the historic Valentine figures and their appeal of romance, sympathy, and heroism. However, we can all embrace the notions of the day, even if we’re not currently involved in a romantic relationship.
Take advantage of this day to reach out to family members and catch up with each other. Send an e-card or quick email to a friend that you couldn’t imagine you’re life without and tell them you appreciate your friendship. Even better, drop off some Valentine’s cards signed “Your Valentine” to a nursing home to treat the residents to a sweet surprise. Make this day more special than a purchased gift…give the gift of yourself.
…and what’s the perfect Valentine’s Day for the RVer? Well RVing, of course! There’s nothing quite like sitting under the stars with the person you love witha glass of wine and some wonderful memories.
It’s true, Mardi Gras is the perfect event for RVers. Today is Fat Tuesday, also known as Mardi Gras and that means it’s the one time of year you can get out there, enjoy the festivities, and dance like no one is watching! It’s events like Mardi Gras that people who own RV can really enjoy without having to scramble for accommodations. We all know that the event is one of the World’s largest celebrations, but do you know the reason behind the celebration itself?
The Mardi Gras Carnival dates back thousands of years to pagan spring and fertility rites. Roman festivals of this time had merrymakers binging on all the meat, eggs, milk and cheese that remained in their homes, until the season of Lent began, a time of eating only fish and fasting. In France, the day before Ash Wednesday came to be known as Mardi Gras, or “Fat Tuesday.” The word “carnival,” another common name, may also derive from this vegetarian-unfriendly custom: in Medieval Latin, carnelevarium means to take away or remove meat. Lots of cities have Mardi Gras celebrations highlighting music, dance, costumes, King cake, and yes, of course, the coveted beads! [Source: Leisure Resort Newsletter]
Mardi Gras is fun for all ages, as you can see in the amazingly cute video below. Carter isn’t 3 just yet and this was her first Mardi Gras…Sometimes it take the innocence of a child to help us remember all of the really fun and amazing things life has to offer. In this case, it’s her first Mardi Gras celebration.
If you’ve already been to Mardi Gras in New Orleans, then you understand the joy that little Carter in the video above was experiencing and how her happiness can be experienced by everyone attending any Mardi Gras festivities. If you haven’t been to a Mardi Gras celebration, make plans to attend one next year in your RV. There are some really fantastic parks in the area. Just do a little research, or even give us a call and we may be able to suggest a good R park to stay in during the festivities. Don’t own an RV yet or want to upgrade? We;; we can do that too. We have hundreds of RV on consignment for you to tour. Just swing by PPL Motorhomes any time and take a look, we’d love to show you around.
I normally don’t really re-direct my readers to other pages away from mine. I’ll admit it, I want people to read my posts, but I ran across a gem of an article that fits in perfectly with the RV lifestyle. It helped that it gives 50 reasons as to why Texas is a honest to goodness Utopia.I’ll reprint some of the article here because I think that it really brings to light how lucky we are to live in Texas.
I’ve never made it a secret about how much I love our Great State. It’s simply because there are so many things to see and do while RVing, it’s literally an RVer’s paradise! I’ve written and discussed it before, but I’ll say it again. In an RV you can literally visit the oceans, plains, desert hills, lakes and mountains without ever leaving the state! I’m still incredibly amazed by how lucky we are as Texans.
Follow this link and take a look at some of the 50 reason Texas is a Bonafide Utopia.
If you have any suggestions that you think PPL Motorhomes customers should visit, don’t hesitate to leave a comment below. As you see in the video above about Waco Tanks, there are simply thousands of things to do and see, and thousands of places to bring your family. What are you waiting for? Get that RV ready and go and see your share of this great State.
It’s not everyday that I find a really good video that benefits RVers and non-Rvers alike. This is one of those video. It is an inspiring and amazing story of a Gulf War Veteran who defied all odds by overcoming the effects of debilitating injuries and declining health. I wanted to share this video with you for three reasons:
It is extraordinarily inspiring. I mean, if you don’t have a lump in your throat after watching it, then you probably weren’t paying attention. Anything is possible if you believe in it and work hard enough for it.
This man is a Veteran who was injured in service of his Country. Everyone who reads my blogs knows that I am fiercely patriotic and supportive of those who put themselves in harm’s way for others.
This is a wonderful way to stay fit while RVing. Now don’t roll your eyes, I see you in the corner! You don’t have to claim to be a practitioner of Yoga to benefit from it. As we get older, the more we are going to have to exercise so we can RV longer!
So there you go. You can apply it to your life how you see fit. It just re-affirmed what I already knew:
If you don’t think you can do something, you probably can but aren’t trying hard enough.
The American soldier has a will power that is stronger than many Americans and worthy of everyone’s total respect.
I have no excuse not to stay healthy and in shape.
What are your thoughts? Can you apply this type of dedication to your RV lifestyle?
You can’t have a Super Bowl party without having some really good food, that’s just a fact! Whether you are having a Super Bowl party at home, or in your RV, I found this great recipe for delicious stuffed mozzarella meatballs. Sure, this is a little bit of a departure from the standard bowl game fare of hot dogs, hamburgers and chips, but trust me, all of your guests will be impressed with your cooking skills when you whip up this easy to prepare and delectable dish.
It can be served with a side of marinara sauce, or eaten as is. The marinara sauce is simply made with tomatoes, pesto, oregano, garlic and olive oil.

1 Pound of Ground Pork
Tablespoon of Salt
Teaspoon of Crushed Red Pepper
2 Tablespoons of Fresh Chopped Parsley
Teaspoon of Chopped Garlic

I have been with PPL Motor Homes since 1980 and have been fortunate enough to grow up with the company. A native Houstonian, I have been blessed with years of wonderful experiences and memories of RVing with family and friends. With 3 children, 8 grandchildren and a ton of friends who I refer to as my adopted family, I was a Nana long before I became RV Nana. I was blessed to have shared this lifestyle with my late husband, a Cajun from Lafayette, and his spirit will live on in all of us as we continue down the road of life.
My life with PPL has given me so many wonderful chapters, from sharing my RV experiences as RV Nana to working with the Texas Campground Owners Association and holding the position of President of the Texas RV Association from 2011-2013, so it’s easy to see that the RV lifestyle is my style. Watch for me on the road …I’m the one with the RV Nana license plates on my car and RV, and share your RV experiences with me. See you soon!
