RVs On Film, Actor Comedian Jeff Daniels Loves RVing

A few years ago, Actor/Comedian/Songster, Jeff Daniels decide to champion the RV lifestyle and produce short webisodes on his experiences behind the wheel of his Class A Motorhome. The really interesting this is that he did it up north… in winter. Needless to say, this alone provides for some interesting situations and quips.

At one point Daniels says something to the effect of, “I don’t think you can call yourself a real American until you’ve been behind the wheel of a recreational vehicle.” Funny, but it does have truth in it.

Check out Jeff’s first episode as he realizes that his choice of time and place to RV isn’t the norm and what to expect from his further installments.

It was nice to see a high profile figure in Entertainment really throw their weight behind the RV industry and the RV Lifestyle itself. I think this just goes to show you that RVing’s popularity is at an all time high. So, when you get well know names expounding on the virtues of RVing, it only makes the industry more popular.

Up until recently, I though that Mr. Daniels was the only one in entertainment really into RVing and doing something to promote the lifestyle until I watched an episode of “Rock My RV With Bret Michaels” on The Travel Chanel. Now, while it’s not really RV Nana’s style of music, I can get into rocking some RVs. I enjoyed the show.

Of course there have been movice like “RV’ with Robin Williams whose center stage was a rented Class A Motorhome, even Lucy and Desi called “The Long, Long Trailer”.

PPL Prides Itself On Customer Service

consignment rv, rv parts, rv acessories, best rv parts, rv parts store, rv parts review

While I never think it is a bad thing to brag about the quality of customer service you give as a company, I have to admit, it’s nothing really. In fact, it’s really easy. That is just how we operate. Our entire crew here at PPL Motorhomes is naturally focused on helping others. You see this isn’t really a job for us. We are all RVers and this is our lifestyle. Our customer service attitude comes from being RVers ourselves and knowing what we demand for our personal motorhomes, travel trailers, fifth-wheels, and tent campers.

It’s important that we run our business the way we know other RVers want it to be run. Not just with great prices, but a real understanding of everything RV related including parts and accessories. That’s why it makes me swoon with pride every time someone sends us some nice correspondence. Like below. It tells me one thing; there’s a great chance that if a customer is happy, then I would have been happy. PPL Motorhomes is a Consignment RV Sales & Parts And Accessories Center owned by RVers, for RVers.

Hello Parts department.

I just wanted to say thank you for the excellent service and leadership that came with my two recent orders.
Speaking with a parts person that has some particle knowledge of how to install the parts they are selling is fantastic.  Who would have thought a toilet can be in and out in 15 minutes or a hot water heater changed out in less than 30 minutes.  When I shared my story about trying to fix my old hot water heater and it kicking my butt the salesman and I had a good laugh.  I caught him just before closing Labor Day Saturday and there was no rush to get me off the phone.  Now I have hot water, more importantly Momma has hot water.

I assure you that PPL Motor Homes will be my vendor of choice in future purchases and I will recommend them to all my friends.

Michael Smith

Thank you, Michael, for taking your time to share your experience with us. I’m proud that you have trusted us with your business. If there is anything you need in the future, you already know we are entirely at your service.

Two Things You Must Know About Your RV

There are two things that every RVer should know: the weight of your RV and your current tire pressure. I’d say that these two things aren’t mutually exclusive either. First, the weight of your RV is of critical importance because it is very easy to overload your rig to an unsafe weight. It goes without saying that an overloaded RV is a dangerous RV.

Check out the video below for important data on your RV.

Now, tire pressure. This is an area of extreme importance that some RVers sometimes take a flippant attitude towards. You know, just looking at your tires and eyeballing your tire pressure. What’s the problem of this? Well, you very well could have created a dangerous combination of The Overweighted vs. The Under-Inflated. This imbalance can put unnecessary stress on your tires, thus increasing the potential for catastrophic failure. The video below explains both the importance of maintaining proper weight distribution and tire pressure.

So you see, just because you have space available, it doesn’t mean you should use it. Every trip should be well thought out in regards to what your are loading your RV with. If you have any questions about weight distribution, or maintaining the appropriate tire pressure in your RV you can call PPL Motorhomes and ask us any questions you may have.

What’s The Best Car To Tow Behind Your Motorhome

best tow vehicle, rv tow vehicle, cow car motorhomes, ppl motorhomes, consignment rvs

Now before we even start talking about what’s better (or what’s best), just remember that this is all subjective people. I want you to know that there are a variety of options out there, some more appropriate than others, but all the options for a good RV tow vehicle could be a simple Mini Cooper, to a full sized sedan, to trucks and SUVs. Two things matter: do you have the right tow vehicle for your RV lifestyle, and do you have enough horsepower to tow it?

These are two of the most important things to consider. The towing limits of your RV may automatically rule out certain makes and models. However, if you are pulling a full sized SUV on an excursion that you’d only need a Fiat for, then maybe it’s time to rethink your tow vehicle.

Let me first say that those of you in motorhomes really understand the value of having a reliable tow vehicle. It goes without saying that having the added mobility that comes with a tow vehicle is extremely valuable. So, that got me thinking, “What Is The Best Tow Vehicle?” After doing research and hitting up forums, I started to get the picture that the best vehicle is the easiest to tow and can still meet your needs.

Check out the RV parks review forum here.

Now, we aren’t the world’s experts on tow vehicles, so make sure you consult other resources also. Specifically, start with your RV’s owner/operator manual. You will find appropriate tow weights in there.

What do you think makes up a good tow vehicle? What make and model has been your tow vehicle and why? PPL Motorhomes wants to know!

The Memory Of September 11th Is No Less Vivid

After 12 years, my memory of September 11th, 2001 is no less vivid what it was moments after the attack. It doesn’t matter what I was doing, or where I might have been going: those moments froze time for me. Nothing in my life, or business seemed important. We all watched helplessly. Many of us like myself were almost completely unable to grasp what we were witnessing and how it would affect our nation and our people for the rest of our lives.

I do my best to take the time to reflect on everything that happened that day, and how it has changed us in the years that followed. In my mind, my anger is still fresh. I still find myself reliving some of the shock I felt even when I look at pictures today. To me, it’s still senseless. I sometimes catch myself thinking about the “what ifs.” Like what if I was in one of the towers? What if someone I loved was? What if I was a first responder? What if I wasn’t near ground zero, but the dust from the collapse came to rest on my tables and counter tops in my downtown apartment. Every New Yorker was affected as every American was affected, with the deepest sadness, monumental confusion and unbridled anger.

Here we are 12 years later. Can you say you feel better? Do you feel vindicated with the certain key players now out of the picture? If your answer is “no,” join the countless number of Americans who still feel the heartache from that day. I was going to get up on my soap box and rant and rave about how we, the people of this country, must never forget what happened and why it may have happened, but then I realize that it is impossible to forget. No matter how hard we try, we will never forget the day we lost a lot of our innocence. Violence came to our soil. The most evil, despicable and vile violence was brought to us. How can you forget that?

I’m writing this on the 12th Anniversary of September 11th. If you read it, it may be next year, it may be in the middle of the year, it might not be necessarily today, but it shouldn’t matter. You should never get over the shock and the sadness of that day. It might get a little easier as time passes, sure, but with the way things are in Syria and Iran at this very moment, it’s not that easy to forget.

For me, my memory is of the common folk and first responders who lost their lives, or were injured. The legacy of their memory that their family has to carry on is forever linked with an atrocity that no one should have to experience. Pray for the families of those who fell. Pray that that day is never repeated anywhere on Earth.

Why You Should Buy, Or Put Your RV On Consignment

consignment rv, consignment rvs, ppl motorhomes, selling your rv, buying a consignment rvNow, I know I write a few times a year about why putting your RV on consignment is a wise thing to do for quite a few reasons, actually. First, I’m not talking to those RVers who rarely use their RVs either. I’m talking to the Hypothetical RVer who puts decent mileage on their rig every year.  These are the they that like to use it almost every weekend, or plan multiple long term trips a year. It’s been a pretty reliable vehicle and shelter, but you are considering making a change. Put your RV on consignment.

Now, for as much as we love our current rig, there’s always that little part in every RVer that thinks, “this (insert feature here) was great for a while, but I think it’s time to upgrade”, or “I want to get a different model”. That’s OK, the fact of the mater is that you are helping the RV industry grow. Here’s how I look at it, here’s nothing wrong with letting your current rig go in favor of a different make, model or floor plan. There is a market for the RV you are looking to unload. Think of it this way, even though you’ve think you’ve outgrown your RV, there are plenty of people how still have room to grow into your RV. It might not be right for you any more, but it could be right for someone else right now.

The other great thing about consignment is avoiding all of the hassle of having to sell it yourself. Now, I know some people may like meeting strangers in parking lot and letting them climb all through their RVs, asking questions that, quite frankly, probably don’t make a whole lotta’ sense anyway. Or, even worse, it makes total sense you just don’t know the answer, whereby you blow the sale. I don’t know about you, but that is just too much for your average person to have to deal with, especially in regards to something that brought them so much relaxation over the years. It may put a bad taste in your mouth.

If you are buying an RV on consignment, then you have the good fortune to get more RV for less money. The amount that you save when you buy a consigned RV, really does out weigh any miles, or over all use. Think of it this way, you can get a larger RV with more amenities when buying one on consignment when compared to buying new.

Of course, you are still going to want to do a little research about the consignment RV dealer you are deciding to purchase from. If you’d like to know a little bit more on the benefits of both buying, or selling an RV on consignment, don’t hesitate to give us a call here at PPL Motorhomes. We’ll walk you through the entire process and answer any questions you may have.

Time To Make Your Fall Bucket List For RV Travel

rv bucket list, ppl motorhomes, fall rv trip, fall vacation, texas vacations, texas fall destinations

With Fall just around the corner, this is the time of year RVers start dreaming about. The weather is getting cooler and that RV bucket list isn’t empty itself. The time to start your planning should have been last month, but I’ll cut you a little slack. So, where do you start? For me, if I’ve ever said, “I’ve always wanted to…” that was a pretty good indication that it’s probably going to be a good bucket list item. Now things like going to the Grand Canyon or camping in Yellowstone or finding the World’s Largest Ball of Aluminum Foil are all perfectly good bucket list items. However, did you know that the amount of things to see and do right here in Texas you quickly fill your bucket 100 times over? From festivals, fairs, football and more, Texas has destination locations perfect for the Fall camping season.

Here’s a nice video I found done by an RVer in regards to how he feels about how to empty your RV bucket list.

So, where exactly can you go in Texas? You can head up to Dallas. Fall is the time of year when things really start picking up in North Texas. For one thing, the Texas State Fair kicks off complete with carnival, games, rides, fried foods, a car expo, football games, live music. Just about any type of entertainment you want can be found in the DFW area in Fall: SMU & TCU football games, the Dallas Cowboys, The Red River Rivalry… and that’s just football! Trust me, you can’t do it all in one trip.

Of course, there are other great places to visit and things to do as well. Austin is a Texas hub of entertainment and seat of our State Government. The festivals like Austin City Limits Music fest and The Austin Film Fest are just two of a multitude of fests in the area. Of course, the Texas hill country is at it’s most beautiful this time of year with a myriad of colors on display.

What about Marfa, Salado, Caddo Lake? There really are so many wonderful things to do and see, It’s a wonder why I ever leave this great state to vacation.

If you have places that you think should be on every RVer’s bucket list, let us know in the comments section below. And of course, when you are getting ready to plan those trips, remember PPL Motorhomes has everything you need to make it a memorable experience.

Getting Ready For Fall And Winter RV Travel

winter rving, texas rving,

Now, it might seem a little early to start talking about Fall/Winter travel, but in fact right now is the perfect time to start planning a trip for the changing seasons. It won’t be long now and Texans will soon be heading towards some warmer climates like San Antonio, Houston, Corpus Christi, and many other destinations.  I’d say that most of them venture all the way down to the valley, but as I said before, many are finding warmer weather and a great time in the Houston and San Antonio areas.

Regardless of where you plan to go, there are a whole host of amazing apps out there that can help you plan all aspects of your trip easily. For example, take a look at the video below. The RV Trip Wizard is a very useful tool when planning your next trip.

Now is the time to start planning your Fall/Winter trip. One thing to keep in mind is planning trips in Texas, there are plenty of places to visit that are right here in the state. Of course, taking a nice winter trip along the Gulf Coast is a wonderful vacation. There are plenty of places that are prime spots in Louisiana, Mississippi and Florida that are worth looking at planning a visit too as well.

Of course, there are multiple things you are going to want to plan for and get ready for your trip. For any of your parts, accessory and camping need this Fall and Winter, I recommend that you start at PPL Motorhomes. We have thousands of parts and accessories that will come in handy during your Snowbirding adventures.
