There comes a time for every RV’r when they start thinking about upgrading. Maybe you need a little more room. Maybe you’d like more options. Maybe you’ve just had it with the little repairs that seem to crop up every time you turn around. Maybe it’s time for a more energy efficient model. Maybe it’s time to sell the ol’ beast and move on to an RV that better suits your current situation. We here at PPL can sure help you with that. Not only are we a bumper to bumper parts and accessories warehouse, we also do a lot of consignments.
We know RVs, all makes and models, and we’ve been doing this for a long time. So when you decide to pull the trigger and make a change, allow us to help you out! Here’s how we can help sell your old RV:
First we’ll do a free appraisal. We do our price assessment based on previous units of the same type sold, have our assessors survey your vehicle so it can be priced to maximum advantage to you, and of course looking at the blue book. There is a large demand for RVs so there is a good chance we may already have someone looking for a model just like yours.
Second, we ADVERTISE. We have full page ads in Boat & RV Trader, we have an extensive direct mail program, we go to RV shows, and advertise in newspapers year round. If there’s a buyer for your specific RV, we will find them!
Third, if you’re looking to trade, we make it easy! We have a large inventory of RVs to choose from and have financing available in-house if needed. Another option is to sell us your RV. We’ll pay you immediate cash for your vehicle and you will have no delays in getting started on whatever adventure awaits.

This is a question we get ask at least 10 times a day. That and, “why should I put my RV on consignment?”
Let’s reverse the order of those questions. First, “Why should I put my RV on consignment?” This question is usually accompanied by, “why can’t I just sell it myself?” The short answer is, you can totally sell it yourself. You can take the time and the money to advertise it, have it inspected, make any repairs it may need, then HOPE someone sees your tiny advertisement on the internet, or, even worse, the Greensheet. Then if you actually do have a buyer, you have to go through the trouble of getting a notary and exchanging the titles and completing a clean smoothed hand-off. Not saying selling it yourself is impossible, but why would you want to? It’s certainly not as easy as putting it on consignment at PPL Motorhomes and letting us handle all of the heavy lifting.
This is what you can expect from PPL when you put your RV on consignment with us.
Consigned Recreational Vehicle Specialists
We do not sell any new units since new units would be in competition with your recreational vehicle. More on why you should use the services of a consignment specialist
The correct asking price for your Consignment Unit is critical for you to get the top dollar for your vehicle. We use prices of previously sold units, blue books, and experienced appraisers to make sure your vehicle is priced to your best advantage. Take advantage of our free appraisal when you list.
We May Already Have a Buyer for Your Unit
Chances are PPL already has a buyer for your vehicle and we know how to get them interested in buying. Over 15,000 buyers actively receive information on your unit thru the mail and over 31,500 buyers receive email updates. This is in addition to the over 750,000 visitors per month to our website. Trade-ins or Cash Purchases
PPL makes it simple for you to do a trade. PPL can also pay you immediate cash for your vehicle. This means you won’t have to delay the start of your next adventure.
We will work with potential buyers to help them locate favorable financing. Helping the buyer find the financing they need can make a tremendous difference in selling because cash buyers are really hard to find in today’s market.
Extended service agreements are offered by PPL on many later models. Some customers are leery of buying a used unit without any warranty. Our extended warranties provide buyers with peace of mind and are another reason why they prefer buying a PPL consigned vehicle.
Ultimate Detailing Service
A clean polished recreational vehicle will sell faster and receive better price offers. Learn more about PPL’s professional detailing service. See how spending a little can raise the selling price of your unit.

With Christmas around the corner, we are all aware of the stresses that it can put on our wallets. We have a solution for your money woes and we can help you sell that RV that’s been taking up space in your driveway:
Since 1972 we’ve sold more than 26,000 consigned RVs. We average about 1500 sold per year. That’s an average of 3-4 per day! If we can’t sell it, no one can!
When you consign your RV with us, you’re accessing a worldwide network that is actively looking for quality RV purchases. Our email list has over 30,000 potential buyers on it and over 15,000 receive inventory updates in the mail. PPL does not sell new RVs, simply because we do not want our clients to feel pressured into purchasing a new RV when a perfectly capable consigned one is available.
We offer free appraisals to give you an idea of what your RV is worth. There are plenty of sources online that give you inaccurate information based off of a bogus database, so beware. We will utilize our extensive database of previously sold units, experienced appraisers and blue books to determine a fair and accurate selling price for your RV.
PPL Motorhomes provides an extended warranty on many of the later models. These warranties provide peace of mind as many customers are hesitant to purchase an RV without a warranty.
There are no listing or monthly fees when you list with PPL. Once your RV is sold, our commission is 10% of the selling price. The minimum commission is $1475 for motor homes and $975 for travel trailers and fifth wheels.
If you are considering selling your RV, please take a moment to request our booklet titled “9 Steps To Selling Your RV” and get you on your way to some extra cash in your pockets for Christmas or maybe even put it towards a new RV!
There comes a time in every RVer’s life when they decide that it’s time for a change. Time to start shopping for a new RV. Spring is usually the time many RVers choose to start the process of looking for a new rig. They could be looking for something that is bigger, with more luxury. Or, they could be downsizing for a myriad of reasons as well. They look for new, but will certainly exhaust the used market as well looking for the RV deal of the year. If you are considering selling your RV, Spring is usually the best time to do it. That being said, it always make me wonder why many RVers choose to trade their RV in at a dealership as opposed to putting it on consignment. Not that trading in your RV is bad, but you could lose massive amounts of money, as opposed to putting that RV on consignment.
Think of it this way. Sure you can trade in your current RV and, in many cases, get less than half of what your RV is currently worth to put towards a new RV. But, wouldn’t you want to get the most money you can for your used RV? Of course you do! Well, consider putting your RV on consignment. Let me put it to you this way, PPL Motorhomes has sold 247 RVs in the last 45 days. You read that right: 247 in 45 days. Why couldn’t that be your RV? Oh, that’s right, because you were going to put it towards your trade. Maybe our video below will convince you to put your RV on consignment with PPL Motorhomes.
The bottom line is that we generally have more RV buyers than we have RVs to sell and that means your RV will sell faster and you will get more money for it! Anyway you cut it, you simply can’t beat 2,500 to 3,500 potential buyers per month. It’s really hard to get that kind of exposure if you are attempting to sell your RV on your own.
We have over 45 years in the consignment RV market which easily places PPL Motorhomes at the top of the list for both potential customers as well as those looking to put their RV on consignment. If you have any questions on either putting your RV on consignment, or purchasing a consignment RV, don’t hesitate to call either of our two locations: PPL Motorhomes in Houston & PPL Motorhomes in New Braunfels.
Why should you consign your RV, and why should you buy a consigned RV?
If you own a RV and are looking to unload it, you have a couple of options, you can trade it in on a newer model, you can sell it yourself or you can have someone sell it for you. Trust us, the paperwork alone is enough to drive any ole’ RVer insane. That’s something that PPL Motorhomes can do for you. Plus, finding a potential buyer can either be a hassle or a nightmare. You could find a lot of potential buyers, but which one’s are legit buyers or not? At worst, you won’t find any buyers. Trust us, we’ve had countless customers who have consigned their RV with us after trying to sell it themselves with considerable relief. When you consign with PPL Motorhomes, we have people perusing our inventory for RVs like yours.
Likewise, if you are looking for your first, of fifth RV, buying a consignment RV from PPL Motorhomes would be a very frugal decision. You can get more RV for more money. You’ll also have the comfort of knowing that we’ll take a look through the RV an make sure every RV we have on our lot meets our standards.
Buying a consignment RV is a lot like buying a car; there are some features and options that you’re going to want, and there will be some others that you don’t have a need for. But, buying an RV on consignment gives you a whole new list of options to choose from, and if this is your first recreational vehicle, take a look at the list I put together below before you start shopping. I think it will put you on the right track when it comes time to pick your first RV.
How many people will I likely be traveling with?
RVs come in all different shapes and sizes, so you want to be sure that you have adequate space and seating room for everyone who will be traveling with you. Plus, if you don’t take in account for sleeping room, you might end up sleeping outside!
How much stuff am I planning on traveling with?
This question goes hand-in-hand with the one above. The more people who travel with you, the more stuff that is coming along for the ride. But, with all of the extra people and belongings, you’re adding more weight to the RV, and that could be a problem. You don’t want to overload your new RV with too much weight bearing down on the chassis and wheels.
What climate will I be using the RV in?
Most modern RVs are well equipped with insulation, but if you’re planning on vacationing to colder climates, you want to know that you’re getting enough insulation to keep you warm when the temperatures drop at night. Also, make sure that the heater and air conditioner are equipped to cover the entire inside of the RV. When it comes to vent placement, notice where they are located throughout the RV’s floor plan — especially in the bathroom when it comes to a heater vent!
How many items will I need to plug into an outlet?
Different RVs have different numbers of outlets depending on the floor plan, and the locations of the outlets can vary, too. If you plan on bringing a lot of electronics along with you, remember that when you’re shopping and take note of the quantity and locations of the outlets. Also remember, you only have 30or 50 AMP service and you cannot plug in and turn on everything you have at your home. Forget using the toaster, electric skillet, hair dryer, both AC units and outside lights all at the same time. It just won’t work!
The bottom line is that if you are looking to join the RV lifestyle, you’ve already made a step in the right direction. The world is a pretty big place and the best and most affordable way to see it is in an RV! Come and check out all of the great consignment RVs we have here at PPL Motorhomes, I know we’ll have one perfect for you and your family.
Cold Showers? Not for me! At PPL Motorhomes, we love our Suburban RV water heaters. They are without a doubt one of the most appreciated and necessary comforts of owning an RV.
Here’s a little information from the PPL Motorhomes Website about the Suburban RV Water Heater, and even further down, you can watch a detailed video with our parts guru, Boyd McMakin…He knows everything about them!
This Suburban water heater gives you plenty of hot water. Suburban Water Heaters are known for their porcelain-lined steel tank and foam insulation that provides for long life. The high-recovery 12,000 BTU/hour units have a large diameter drain and replaceable anode rod. Heated water corrodes most metals, but the porcelain-lined steel tank features a replaceable anode rod that absorbs the destructive, corrosive action of heated water, ensuring that the entire system lasts longer. The anode rod is attached to the drain plug for easy replacement. This water heater features Direct Spark ignition and an electric element to recover an additional 6 gallons/hour at the campsite.
All models offer a regulated safety thermostat and are designed with controls up front, for simple installation, operation and maintenance.
Units come with a manufacturers three year limited warranty on tank, two year limited warranty on components.
For additional information on all these water heaters, please visit the Suburban website. Clicking on the the above link will open a new browser window. Close the new browser window to return here and call 1-800-755-4775 for ordering.

Warning Signs on a RV
Like all used items for sale, some are in better condition than others. As an informed consumer, you need to know what to look for so you don’t wind up with a lemon. Here are a few quick and easy things to include in your check: • Excessive Sealant — This is a sign that the RV has had issues with leaks. • Water Stains — Water stains on the ceiling and walls are signs of leaks. Water stains on the floor or in the cabinets can either be leaks or broken pipes. • Expired Tires — Every RV tire will have a four-digit code stamped on the side. The first two digits are the week of the year they were made and the last two digits are the year they were made. Any tire over six years old will need to be replaced.
Get the CarFax on the RV (if available)
This is something that usually gets me a funny look. Even though PPL Motorhomes doesn’t offer this service, you can certainly use it on your own. While many people think that CarFax is just for cars, you can find RV listed as well. Keep in mind though that not all RV will appear on their listing. However, CarFax will give unbiased and accurate information on the history of the vehicle. You will want to look for water damage, fire damage, bodywork and other claims that may pop up.
While it costs a little bit to check the CarFax, it is worth every penny if it prevents you from potentially getting you hands on a lemon.
RV Dealers Sell RV By Owner
This is probably the best kept secret in the business. Many people think that in order to buy from an owner, you have to go to the owner. This is not the case. Many times RV lots sell on consignment like PPL Motorhomes. For example, PPL Motorhomes doesn’t own the RVs we sell, we’ve just been recruited to sell it for the owner. One of the greatest things about buying an RV that is on consignment is that you know that vehicle is going to be taken care of while on our lot waiting for its next new owner.
If you have any questions about purchasing a consigned RV, or even putting an RV on consignment yourself. Just give us a call and we’ll explain the entire process.
I have been with PPL Motor Homes since 1980 and have been fortunate enough to grow up with the company. A native Houstonian, I have been blessed with years of wonderful experiences and memories of RVing with family and friends. With 3 children, 8 grandchildren and a ton of friends who I refer to as my adopted family, I was a Nana long before I became RV Nana. I was blessed to have shared this lifestyle with my late husband, a Cajun from Lafayette, and his spirit will live on in all of us as we continue down the road of life.
My life with PPL has given me so many wonderful chapters, from sharing my RV experiences as RV Nana to working with the Texas Campground Owners Association and holding the position of President of the Texas RV Association from 2011-2013, so it’s easy to see that the RV lifestyle is my style. Watch for me on the road …I’m the one with the RV Nana license plates on my car and RV, and share your RV experiences with me. See you soon!
