Local Dealer Consignment 

Local Recreational Vehicle dealers may offer a consignment program that will place your vehicle on their lot for sale. If you decide to consign your unit with a local dealer or any consignment lot, take time to visit the lot to see exactly how your vehicle is being displayed and marketed. Your vehicle may be in direct competition with the "new" and "used" units owned by the dealer. The dealer will probably make more money selling his own stock and your vehicle will not likely be the first to be sold. Finding a consignment specialist with a successful track record is preferred. A dealer that handles automobiles, trucks, boats and recreational vehicles, may also be less likely to have the buyers or the knowledge it takes to get the best price for you.

For Sale Sign

The easiest and least expensive way to advertise your unit is to find a busy parking lot or roadside, place a "For Sale" sign in the window with your phone number. You may get a serious buyer this way, but you are sure to attract tire kickers who may not even be interested in purchasing an RV.

Newspaper RV Classified Advertising

Local newspaper advertising is what many people think of first.  Whether you are selling a puppy or a RV, many sellers think of the newspaper ads in their local newspapers first. Results of this kind of advertising can vary greatly. Newspaper ads can be expensive and results are not guaranteed. Ads are the favorite of bargain hunter buyers looking for vehicles that are being sold for below market prices.

Internet Listings

Internet listings can reach 1000's of potential buyers throughout the country and you will get inquiries. However, very few of these potential buyers are likely to travel across the country to look at one vehicle, so actually selling your RV could take a while. 

On popular RV internet sites, we have observed a decrease in the percentage of ads that are being run by individuals. More and more of the ads are by dealers advertising units they own. We believe that the problem of getting potential buyers to travel a long way to look at one vehicle and thus the lack of results is the primary reason for this trend.

RV Advertising Suggestions

Here are a few tips for writing ads. 

• Include important information such as size, year, brand and price.
• Include mileage.
• "fluff" words such as cream puff, spotless and immaculate cost you money and don't really work.
• Include only your telephone number or e-mail address as the last thing you want is a potential buyer just showing up.
