Friction Sway Control Standard - 99-1433
Friction Sway Control Standard
This trailer sway control uses friction to resist trailer sway once it has begun.
Weight distributing hitch is not included. Use with surge brakes is not recommended.
It is recommended that you remove the friction-style sway control prior to backing up to ease reversing and prevent damage to the system.
Friction Sway Control
A friction sway control system is the most commonly known sway control. It provides the simplest of anti-sway systems and makes use of friction to prevent pivotal movement, helping prevent and control trailer sway. This type of sway control is what is referred to as a passive sway control, meaning sway must begin to create friction for this system to counteract it. Friction systems stiffen the couplings between the trailer and the tow vehicle. You can adjust the stiffening level to the trailer weight and weather conditions.
Dual-Cam Sway Systems
The dual cam sway control utilizes the weight distribution spring tension bars to resist sway at all times. This type of sway control is referred to as active sway control, meaning it will not allow sway to even begin. This system uses the vertical load exerted by the trailer to resist sway at all times, therefore a minimum of 500-600lbs of tongue weight is required for this system to function properly. The more vertical weight you have the better this system will work. A dual-cam sway system uses cams located on the trailer's A-frame hitch. These cams are locked into position, which creates a rigid connection to help prevent trailer sway. These cams will automatically slide out during turns to allow full maneuvering.
